Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is most often diagnosed during childhood and this condition may continue into adulthood. It is characterized as a pattern of diminished attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
The most common symptoms of ADHD are trouble concentrating, disorganization, and poor time management.
This neurodevelopmental disorder can affect school performance in school-age children and adolescents, as well as work performance in adults.
In addition to a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, an optional computer-based ADHD test is also available. The test is FDA approved for diagnosing ADHD in children, adolescents, and adults.
There are 3 types of ADHD:
Children, adolescents, and adults may find it difficult to complete tasks, organize, and pay attention to details. These symptoms are often seen as “daydreaming” or viewed as not paying attention while in school or work. They are easily distracted and often forget details.
Those who experience hyperactive symptoms tend to be restless, fidget, and are often impulsive. Children may interrupt conversations and be unable to stay still while sitting.
Those who experience both inattentive and hyperactive symptoms are said to have a combined presentation.
